Weekend Dances is a two-day dance composition and performance workshop led by Darcy Lyons (Lyons and Tigers) that focuses around each participant’s daily life as creative material for thoughtful, specific, and collaborative choreography.
Through a variety of writing activities, movement prompts, and feedback sessions, Darcy and participating dancers will co-create solos and small group pieces. Together, they'll creatively tackle questions like…
-Can we transform the everyday into the sublime, or maybe vice versa?
-How can we use our sometimes “mundane” daily lives or actions as a rich foundation for choreography?
-What do you remember about last weekend? What was the worst or best part of your weekend? Why?
-If you made a short dance about the spices in your dinner on Friday night, what would it look like?
-If you had the exact same day that you did last Sunday, two years from now, what do you imagine will have changed in your life perspective?
-How much productive creativity can happen in 8 hours together?
Dances created in the workshop will have a chance to be presented in Darcy Lyons (Lyons and Tigers) performances on May 13 and 14, 2016 at The Iron Factory in Philadelphia. If you are not available on those performance dates, you can still take the workshop. Just please let me know before the workshop begins. Thank you!
